Apple announced two iOS updates on September 1 during the iPod event: iOS 4.1 and iOS 4.2. iOS 4.1 is basically a release to fix bugs such as proximity sensor issue, Bluetooth and iPhone 3G performance. It also has new features such as HDR, HD uploads over WiFi, TV show rentals and Game Center. This update will be available for the following iOS devices:
- iPhone 4
- iPhone 3GS
- iPhone 3G
- iPod Touch 2G
- iPod Touch 3G
- iPod Touch 4[1. It will ship with iOS 4.1 but the update is already available for download]
Following 4.1, iOS 4.2 will be released in November. This will being iPad on par with other iOS devices in terms of feature set. While it will have features like multitasking and folders, it will also get new additions such as printing and AirPlay.
List of complete features iOS 4.2:
- Multitasking
- Folders
- Printing
- AirPlay
- Game Center
- Improved Mail
- Finding text from web pages [New for iOS]
- Enhanced enterprise support

If you jailbreak or unlock your iPhone, don’t upgrade to iOS 4.1 because there are no known tools that will preserve your jailbreak or unlock.
