Many people were excited to hear rumors about Apple TV to be renamed as iTV and that it would run apps from the App Store but nothing like that was revealed in the media event on September 1. Still, the new Apple TV has some interesting features like TV show rentals, cheap price and one of the good ones is that you can control your Apple TV using your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with an all new gesture controlled remote app.
To control your Apple TV with your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad you just have to download the free Remote app from App Store. Then with the flick of your fingers you can rent new movies and TV shows, scroll through the Netflix catalog and browse your media collection.
No need for a crappy remote but instead you can use the same easy interface that you are already use to browse music and video on your multi-touch device. When you want to find something specific, you can use the device’s QWERTY keyboard to quickly tap out the title instead of clicking letters on the Apple TV screen. And for fast forwarding you just have to keep taping to your finger’s content.
The new Remote app hasn’t yet been made available in the App Store. We’ll let you know as soon as it is. Stay tuned!
