No matter what iOS you are running or what baseband your iPhone 4, 3GS or 3G has been updated to, CutYourSim claims to have an “official iPhone unlock” solution for it. The company which is primarily involved in making micro SIM cutters says the unlock will stay forever even after restores & future iOS firmware updates meaning the iPhone can be used with any GSM carrier around the globe. Interestingly, the iPhone-Dev Team has already verified the solution to be legit.
The hefty price to pay for this permanent unlock is $169 per device. Surprisingly, it doesn’t even void the warranty. Here’s how MacStories thinks it could be possible:
Apparently, someone at CutYourSim found a way to “whitelist” devices by adding IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) numbers to Apple’s own database — something that of course isn’t possible unless you have access to the aforementioned database. Which leads us to think Apple might soon find a way to block the service — but, then again, we don’t know all the details behind Apple’s IMEI database so we can’t judge right now. It is possible, however, that the procedure involves accessing the IMEI database from a carrier’s online backend.
So folks, will you be getting this unlock any time soon? Let us know!
