An early unboxing video of new 24-inch M1 iMac in Yellow shows slightly brighter front, color coded accessories and more

The embargo on 24-inch M1 iMac unboxing will lift soon but a Chinese reviewer accidentally uploaded his unboxing video on YouTube early. Although access to the original video was immediately restricted, the video got reposted and we have a first look impression of the new redesigned 24-inch M1 iMac.

With a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display, the new M1 iMac is powered by an Apple Silicon M1 chip (8-core CPU and up to 8‑core GPU), equipped with a 1080p FaceTime camera, comes with 16GB unified memory and up to 2TB storage space.

First look at the new redesigned 24-inch M1 iMac in yellow

As per the reposted unboxing video by @Maxhibit, the first thing which stands out is the packaging, a big white box with Yellow iMac printed on the front with a color-matched yellow handle. Only Apple can pay so much attention to details.

The box opens to two ‘yellow’ arrows on right and left sides to move the protective pieces and take out the computer. Like the marketing videos and ‘Hello’ wallpaper, the white peel on the screen has a yellow ‘hello’. Under the computer, is the box containing the color-coded accessories in white and yellow: magnetic charging cables, Magic Keyboard, mouse, and trackpad.

Color

As the reviewer peels the front off, the first impression of the Yellow color is that it is more like golden yellow, rather than sunflower yellow. The finish is matte with a little sheen. The power button and ports are all darker than the softer front, the hinge, and the Apple logo. But the subtle color is not two tones lighter than the back, as shown in the announcement video. The bezels are white which one would learn to love, eventually.

Design

The computer is thin and compact as claimed. Although it is a 24-inch screen, the whole computer seems to take less space on the table. The hinge is firm and titles the screen smoothly.

Accessories – Magic Keyboard with Touch ID

Accessories are color matched and out of all the accompanying accessories, the Magic Keyboard is a new addition. The reviewer was able to scan his fingerprint on the keyboard in the same way as on an iPhone. The Touch ID on the keyboard worked well to unlock the computer, sign-in websites, download apps, and make online payments. *Apple has added a new UI shift animation.

Display, Camera, and Speakers

The display is nice and bright with color sharpness. House under the front chin, speakers of the new 24-inch M1 iMac did sound loud with Dolby Atoms support. However, the sound got distorted when the reviewer maxed the volume.

The new M1 iMac has the best camera on an iMac, if not the best in a computer.

Performance

Reviewer ran various tests like Geekbench Score was 1752 on single-core and 7702 on multi-core and others which revealed that iMac processor performance is more or less same as the other M1 benchmark scores.

As promised the new system successfully delivered apps continuity from iPhone to iMac. The first M1 iMac orders will deliver on Friday, May 21, so will have more opinions on the new redesigned computer.
