Apple has announced AirPods Pro 2 with improved audio, battery life, active noise cancellation, and transparency mode. The wireless headphones also feature improved Find My capabilities, water resistance, lanyard support, and gesture support for volume controls. Here is all you need to know about the new AirPods Pro.
AirPods Pro 2 – all you need to know
Apple has improved in-ear detection thanks to better sensors that can automatically detect skin contact and turn them on or off. This should help with longer battery life as the AirPods will be able to accurately detect skin and turn off when not needed.
The weight of the charging case is slightly more than the previous generation AirPods Pro. This can likely be attributed to the addition of a speaker, Find My support, and possibly a larger battery.
Apple has finally brought back lanyard support in its products, which should ideally have been there in all AirPods models. Customers can buy and use any lanyard and use it with the AirPods Pro charging case. Apple has not created its own lanyard, but is selling one from Incase on its store, which looks very much like its own product. It is available for $12.95.
The MagSafe charging case also features a U1 chip so that it can be detected using the Find My app, even if the AirPods are not inside the case. This is also where the speaker comes in handy, as it can make a sound even without the AirPods.
Apple Watch users can use the Apple Watch charging puck to charge their AirPods Pro case, alongside any other MagSafe compatible or Qi-compatible wireless charger. The case still uses a Lightning port for charging, instead of USB-C, and Apple includes a Lightning to USB-C charging cable in the packaging.
Apple has also included Bluetooth 5.3 support in AirPods Pro 2, just like all iPhone 14 models. However, it is unclear if LE Audio support is included too.
For free laser engraving, Apple now allows customers to supply their own Memoji to be engraved on the charging case.
A MagSafe charging case is also being sold for third-generation AirPods, however, it does not include a lanyard loop.
