Apple’s latest AirPods Pro 2 are reportedly experiencing production issues ahead of the upcoming holiday season. This means that it may be difficult for some customers to purchase the second-generation AirPods Pro for Christmas.
Apple loses one of its two AirPods Pro 2 suppliers
In a new Twitter thread, TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reveals that one of Apple’s key suppliers, Goertek, recently announced that it received a notice from a “major overseas client” to suspend the “assembly production for a smart acoustic product.”
Based on the available information, Kuo says that this “smart acoustic product,” may be Apple’s AirPods Pro 2. The analyst goes on to say that Goertek’s suspension of production was likely caused by production issues rather than weak demand for the product itself.
There are two suppliers that are responsible for assembling the AirPods Pro 2: Goertek and Luxshare ICT. According to Kuo’s survey, Luxshare ICT has expanded production and obtained all orders for the second-generation AirPods Pro, making it the sole supplier of the new earbuds.
As of right now, the analyst says it is unclear if Goertek will resume production of the AirPods Pro 2 at a later date or if it will miss out on future orders from the Cupertino tech giant.
The analyst concludes the thread by offering his shipment estimate for the second-generation AirPods Pro for the fourth quarter of 2022. Kuo believes, taking the recent production issues into consideration, that Apple will ship 20 million units.
What this entire situation means for consumers is that the inventory of the AirPods Pro 2 might not be readily available for the upcoming holiday season since one supplier is now shouldering the entire production burden which previously, was split in two. Even if customers are able to order the earbuds, they might experience longer delivery estimates.
