At the WWDC 2023 event, Apple announced new features for the AirPods Pro 2 that will revolutionize the personal audio experience in iOS 17. The forthcoming updates will introduce three powerful new features including Adaptive Audio, Personalized Volume, and Conversation Awareness to the AirPods Pro 2, making them even more versatile and user-friendly, especially when people are around.
Not only that, but the entire AirPods lineup will also benefit from enhanced functionality, making calls and Automatic Switching seamless.
New AirPods Pro 2 features in iOS 17 to enhance audio experience
Here are the new technologies coming to AirPods Pro 2 and other AirPods models in iOS 17.
Adaptive Audio
The AirPods Pro 2 will now boast Adaptive Audio, a groundbreaking listening mode that dynamically blends Transparency mode and Active Noise Cancellation. By analyzing the user’s environment and interactions, Adaptive Audio tailors the noise control experience to deliver the best audio quality in real time. This feature ensures a seamless transition between different environments throughout the day, providing an unparalleled audio experience.
Personalized volume
To further enhance personal audio, the new Personalized Volume feature utilizes machine learning to understand the user’s surroundings and listening preferences over time. By doing so, it automatically fine-tunes the media experience for optimal audio quality in various environmental conditions. This intelligent feature ensures that users enjoy their audio content at the perfect volume every time.
Conversation Awareness
AirPods Pro 2 will introduce Conversation Awareness, which allows users to effortlessly interact with people nearby while wearing their earbuds. When activated, Conversation Awareness lowers the volume of the audio content and enhances the voices in front of the user, simultaneously reducing background noise. This exciting feature enables users to stay connected with their surroundings without compromising their personal audio experience.
Enhancements to Automatic Switching
Updates to Automatic Switching streamline the experience of moving between Apple devices with AirPods. Connection times have been significantly reduced, making it faster and more reliable to switch from listening to a favorite podcast on an iPhone to attending a work call on a Mac. With this enhanced functionality, the AirPods seamlessly adapt to the user’s device usage, ensuring a hassle-free transition.
Enhanced call controls
Making calls with AirPods is now more convenient than ever. With the addition of a new Mute or Unmute feature, users can simply press the stem on AirPods Pro (1st and 2nd generations) and AirPods (3rd generation), or the Digital Crown on AirPods Max, to quickly mute or unmute themselves. This intuitive feature enables effortless multitasking, ensuring that users stay in control of their audio experience during calls.
Availability
The AirPods developer beta is already accessible to Apple Developer Program members. The new features will be introduced to all AirPods users this fall through a free firmware update.
