Apple seeded iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1 Release Candidates on October 18. Ahead of the updates’ public release, the tech giant also announced that App Store submissions for iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1 Live Activities are now open for developers.
As a part of the redesigned Lock Screen on iOS 16, Live Activities allow users to receive updates in real-time from sports, food, ride-hail, traveling, and other apps for up to 8 hours. A Live Activity is displayed on the bottom of the Lock Screen UI and only on iPhone 14 Pro, the Live Activity session continues in the Dynamic Island.
Previously, Apple re-launched the Live Activities API in iOS 16.1 beta and shared guidelines for third-party developers to develop and test Live Activity sessions for their apps on compatible iPhones with and without Dynamic Island.
Developers can now submit the Live Activities of their apps to the App Store
As per the announcement, developers can now test the Live Activities of their apps on Xcode 14.1 and submit them to the App Store for review.
iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1, the world’s most advanced mobile operating systems, will soon be available to customers worldwide. Take advantage of Live Activities to help people stay on top of what’s happening live in your app, right from the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island on iPhone.
Bring desktop-class features, such as an editor-style navigation bar and enhanced text editing menu to your iPad app, and get the most out of the latest advancements in MapKit, Metal, ARKit, Core ML, and more.
Developers are also notified that from April 2023 onwards, only apps built with Xcode 14.1 and iOS 16.1 SDK will be accepted.
Build your app using Xcode 14.1 Release Candidate, then test and submit it for review. Please note, starting April 2023, all iOS and iPadOS apps submitted to the App Store must be built with Xcode 14.1 and the iOS 16.1 SDK.
In addition to Live Activities, iOS 16.1 will also include the delayed iCloud Shared Photo Library, Key sharing in the Wallet app, Apple Card Savings account, improved ‘copy and paste’ feature, “Satellite Connection Demo” for iPhone 14 series and more.
