Apple could shake up its iPad Pro lineup in the future by launching new iPad Pro models with OLED displays in both 11-inch and 12.9-inch sizes, according to a new report. The tablets are expected to adopt the display technology by 2024.

Rumors of Apple’s iPad lineup gaining OLED display panels have been floating around for a while now with the iPad Pro expecting to adopt the technology first. However, the change is still ways away. “Looking at tablets beyond 2022, we expect to see Apple shake-up this category again by launching OLED iPad Pros,” wrote DSCC’s Ross Young in a new report.
According to the analyst, the Cupertino tech giant could make the upgrade for both iPad Pro models rather than the lineup which features mini-LED for the 12.9-inch model only while the other model features an LCD display. Instead of the 11-inch model being left out, Young believes both will be updated together.
The OLED panels could be improved with LTPO, which will allow the displays to offer ProMotion variable refresh rates. In addition, OLED technology offers deeper blacks, a higher contrast ratio, and sharper colors.
Young also refers to an earlier report that says LG Display is working on two different OLED panels in an effort to become the tech giant’s supplier for the iPad Pro. LG’s preparations to supply Apple with OLED displays for the iPad include the expansion of its plant in Paju, South Korea. Earlier this year, a separate report claimed that Apple supplier BOE is gearing up to expand its manufacturing capacity to capture a bigger share of the tech giant’s business.
As for a launch timeline, Young says iPad Pro models with OLED could arrive in 2024. This launch frame has been corroborated by a bunch of earlier reports that point to a launch in late 2023 or early 2024.
