As expected, Apple has announced its next event, to take place on March 21. The event is titled ‘Let us loop you in’ which sounds like Apple is referring to Apple Watch’s loops. But the event is likely to be more than just about loops – the next iPhone 5SE and iPad Air 3 are in line for announcements too.
iPhone 5SE will be Apple’s return to shipping 4″ phones again. The new model will have the same internals as iPhone 6 as well as the design, but in a smaller form factor. The features will include A9 and M9 chips, always on Siri support, Apple Pay and more. It will also get new colors including gold and rose gold. One glaring omission is 3D Touch which is not expected to make its way to the smaller iPhone. This will be Apple’s replacement for the iPhone 5s which is still sold as Apple’s cheapest iPhone model.
iPad Air 3 is expected to be a smaller 9.7″ iPad Pro with 4 new speakers and smart connector. It will also get the new display technology from iPad Pro, allowing it work with Apple Pencil.
Apple Watch will also get some attention with a rumoured new black milanese loop, new sports band colors and more. This is not the first time that Apple will be adding more customization options to the Watch line up – they had done this before with the introduction of Hermès collection, Apple Watch Sport with gold case and other band options. New Nylon bands are also rumored to be announced.
On the software front, Apple will likely announce the release of iOS 9.3, watchOS 2.2, tvOS 9.2 and OS X 10.11.4 which are already available in beta versions. It would be great if Apple announces watchOS 3 but that seems unlikely if the rumor mill is to be believed.
The keynote will start at 10 a.m. PDT on March 21. Apple will be streaming the event live on their website to Safari on Macs and iOS devices, Edge browser in Windows 10 and Apple TV.
