In his new note to investors, Haitong Intl Tech Research analyst Jeff Pu states that Apple AR Glass has entered the design development stage and might launch in the second half of 2024.
For over two years, rumor mills have claimed that Apple AR Glass will be coming out in the next few years. As Apple CEO Tim Cook has commented on the profound impact of augmented reality (AR) technology in changing consumers’ lives, it was reported that he will oversee the launch of AR Glass before his retirement.
Previously, sources claimed that Apple AR Glass would launch in 2022. But now, the release timeframe is moved to 2024.
The prototype of Apple AR Glass will be ready by end of this year
As per Pu’s note, viewed by 9to5Mac, the alleged Apple AR Glass has entered the design development stage and its prototype will be ready by the end of 2022. Mass production in the second half of 2024.
The display glass of the new AR Glass would be provided by Corning and Hoya.
We expect it to adopt waveguide technology, and Corning (GLW) and Hoya (7741 JP) are sampling the glass. We expect Lante to benefit from the partnership with Corning.
iPhone 15 Pro models will feature a periscope lens
The note also mentioned that Lante will be Apple’s supplier for the periscope lenses used in the iPhone 15 Pro models expected to launch in 2023.
“Lante continues raising its planned capacity for prism. We continue seeing a very high chance of the periscope’s adoption, with Lante being the major supplier.”
Several reports have already claimed that Apple will debut the periscope lens tech in iPhone 15 Pro models to offer improved zoom: 5x optical zoom or 10x zoom periscope lens.
It was also said that Apple had cancelled Samsung’s persicope order and was planning to award it to LG Innotek. Renowned tech analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo detailed that the 2023 iPhone will ship with a periscope telephoto lens.
