DigiTimes reports that Apple’s AR glasses will launch in the Fall of 2022. Apple’s “secret weapon” has cleared the second phase of prototype testing (P2) and will go into mass production by the second half of 2022.
For some time, sources have been claiming that Apple is developing a new line of Augmented Reality devices like AR glasses, and AR/VR mixed reality headsets. Even the company’s CEO Tim Cook threw some color on AR technology; without mentioning any specific product, in a recent interview he said that it has phenomenal potential to enhance users lives and Apple would first integrate it with iPhone and iPad before expanding it further.
I am so excited about AR. I think AR is one of these very few profound technologies that we will look back on one day and went how did we live out lives without it. Right now, we you can experience it in thousands of way using your iPad and iPhone but of course, those will get better and better over time.
Already, its a great way to shop, its a great way to learn; it enhances the learning process. I can’t wait for it to be even more important in collaboration and so forth. I am AR fan number 1.
Apple’s alleged AR glasses will be on the market next year
According to the report, AR glasses have passed the P2 phase and entered Engineering Verification Test.
According to the supply chain, Apple’s AR headset has already completed one P2, and will enter the EVT (Engineering Verification Test) stage before entering mass production. It is expected to be on the market in the second half of 2022.
Based on industry reports, the alleged device will be equipped with 3D sensors and will run on a new ‘rOS’ which will be compatible with iOS. The AR glasses will have a design similar to expensive lightweight sunglasses with a thick frame to house battery, meant to be worn throughout the day.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman predicts that Tim Cook will oversee the launch of AR glasses before retiring from Apple. Gurman expects the product to launch by 2025 – 2028, not 2022.
