At the WWDC 2022 event, Apple unveiled the new capabilities features in the new iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13, tvOS 16, and watchOS 9 updates and announced that the updates will be released to the public this fall.
However, a new report by Bloomberg claims that the tech company plans to delay the launch of iPadOS 16 by a month. So instead of releasing it in September with iOS 16, the update will be released in October.
Reportedly, the Stage Manager feature caused the delay in iPadOS 16’s launch in September
People familiar with the matter have told Bloomberg that the delay in iPadOS 16 is because of the unsatisfactory performance of its new multitasking feature called Stage Manager.
Available only on iPad Pro and iPad Air with the M1 chip, Stage Manager automatically organizes apps and windows, and enables users to create overlapping windows in different sizes.
However, users reported several issues with the feature’s functionality, confusing UI, and bugs during beta testing and complained about the lack of support for not-so-old iPad models like the iPad Pro 2020.
Now, the tech company is buying time to not only perfect the Stage Manager multitasking experience on the iPad but also to utilize its engineering resources for a successful launch of the iOS 16 update in September. Secondly, the launch of iPadOS 16 in October will be closer to the launch of the new iPad Pro with an M2 chip.
The report also mentions that watchOS 9 will launch in September and macOS 13 will launch in October.
Apple Inc. expects to delay its next major iPad software update by about a month, taking the unusual step of not releasing it at the same time as the new iPhone software, according to people with knowledge of the matter.
The Mac update is scheduled for release in October, the same month Apple typically rolls out major Mac software upgrades. And watchOS 9, the latest Apple Watch software, is still slated for September alongside the iPhone update.
