MENA region’s first Apple Developer Academy opens in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Cupertino tech giant has expanded its digital training program to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region by opening Apple Developer Academy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The program is suitable for coders, designers, and entrepreneurs to gain essential knowledge and training to find and create jobs in the iOS app economy.

The first Apple Developer Academy opening in Brazil in 2013 and since then, the company offers this institutional training program in dozes of academies around the world like the U.S., Korea, Italy, and Indonesia.  Apple says that the program is an opportunity to empower “students around the world with app development and entrepreneurial training, many of whom have gone on to start their own businesses, create and sell apps on the App Store, and give back to their communities.”

Apple Developer Academy in Saudi Arabia will focus on women empowerment and more

At the announcement of Apple Developer Academy in Korea and Detroit, Michigan, the company plans to expand the program worldwide and it has, starting with the capital city of Saudi Arabia. The news published in Saudi Gazette, spotted by Apple Insider, details that Apple will work Saudi Federation for Cybersecurity, Programming, and Drones represented by Tuwaiq Academy in partnership with Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University to facilitate the program in the country.

The landmark move comes as a fillip to the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, and an affirmation of Saudi Arabia’s leading role in the region. In its first phase, the academy will be dedicated to programmers and developers, in support of efforts for women empowerment and the ongoing massive social reforms under Vision 2030.

“This qualitative move is an investment in the digital minds and skills of our girls in their journey of building the innovative future of the nation and the transformation towards an economy based on innovation and digital transformation.” said Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Al-Swaha .

He further added that Apple is helping the country to implement its Vision 2030 to create a booming economy by focusing on innovation and technological growth.

“In our partnership with Apple, we will work together and strive to create an economic ecosystem for business to instill skills that enhance innovation and technology, and ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for our local community and the societies of the world that will undoubtedly benefit from the technical cadres that will receive education and training at the Apple Academy.” 

Apple Developer Academy offers two training programs:

  • 30-day foundations courses that cover specific topic areas, including an introductory course for those considering app development as a career path.
  • Intensive 10- to 12-month academy program that dives deeper into coding and professional skills.
