Apple published a new support document for a “35W Dual USB-C Port Power Adapter” accidentally. Viewed by 9to5Mac, the document was deleted immediately after. Having said that, it did reveal that Apple has such a dual USB-C power adaptor, a first of its kind, to charge multiple devices simultaneously.
[Update: ChargerLAB shared alleged leaked images of the new power plug.]
Apple does not retail a dual USB-C port power plug, thus, the alleged power adapter will be the first of its kind. In 2020, the tech giant stopped shipping power adaptors in iPhone, Apple Watch, and iPad boxes because of environmental reasons, reducing electronic waste. But the company sells power plugs separately. Currently, it retails a 20W power adaptor and MagSafe Duo charger.
Apple could sell a 35W dual USB-C port power adapter, along with the MagSafe duo to charge multiple devices
As per the seen support document, the more powerful power plug will not be sold with a USB-C cable and will be able to charge two devices with the same power, unlike the MagSafe Duo charger which is at a slower speed. The alleged power adapter was described as:
Use the Apple 35W Dual USB-C Port Power Adapter and a USB-C cable (not included) to charge your device. Connect a USB-C cable to either port on the power adapter, extend the electrical prongs (if necessary), then plug the power adapter firmly into the power outlet. Ensure the power outlet is easily accessible for disconnecting. Connect the other end of the cable to your device.
The accessory would also support USB-C Power Delivery technology, according to the document:
- Input: 100–240V /1.0A
- (USB PD) Output 1 or 2: 5VDC/3A or 9VDC/3A or 15VDC/2.33A or 20VDC/1.75A
According to images of the alleged power brick shared by ChargerLAB, the new 35W dual power adaptor will have the same compact design as Apple’s usual power plugs with an all-white exterior, foldable prongs, circulate indents on the sides to easily remove it for the power outlet, and side-by-side two USB-C ports.
It must be noted that it is unclear if Apple will launch the 35W Dual USB-C port power adapter and when. The publisher states the existence of the alleged 35W dual power adaptor reflects the company’s plans to expand the lineup of power adapters with GaN technology inside.
This 35W Dual USB-C Port Power Adapter could very well be Apple’s first standalone GaN charger when it launches, although Apple doesn’t mention GaN technology in the support document.
For instance, Digitimes reported last year that Apple was developing new GaN (gallium nitride) chargers with USB-C connectivity. A variety of companies make GaN chargers that are both smaller and faster than the USB-C chargers Apple includes with its MacBook lineup and sells separately for its iPhones.
