Apple has filed a lawsuit against HTC for infringing 20 Apple iPhone patents related to user interface, underlying architecture and hardware. Steve Jobs said in a press release, ““We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it,”. He also said, “We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.”
On the other hand, HTC is defending itself saying that it has designed its own user interface, HTC Sense, which is different then iPhone interface and this will defend against Apple’s lawsuit. HTC issued a counter statement regarding the lawsuit and said that “HTC is a mobile technology innovator and patent holder focused on creating many of the most innovative smartphones in the past 13 years”. What I think is that HTC is the only company that can give Apple some competition. I have used HTC and its no where near Apple’s architecture or interface.
Is Apple afraid of tough competition or has HTC really copied Apple iPhone patents?
