Apple’s new filing in the Bluetooth SIG products database suggests that the tech giant is preparing to launch new devices with Bluetooth 5.2. It is likely that the new AirPods Pro 2 will come with LE Audio support.
Recently, Bluetooth LE Audio specs were finalized with different features coming to Bluetooth 5.2 and compatible products coming out in late 2022. Soon after, Apple released a new AirPods Max beta firmware that enabled support for the updated LC3 codec (Low Complexity Communication Codec) to deliver improvement in audio quality without any drops and power efficiency.
Therefore, support for Bluetooth 5.2 or LE Audio in the new AirPod Pro will enhance the listening experience on wireless headphone.
Apple might launch AirPod Pro 2 with Bluetooth 5.2 support this year
Apple’s filing lists Bluetooth 5.2 as the host subsystem’s specification name for future products. But MacRumors points out that in reality, the filing is likely referring to Bluetooth 5.3 because “the Bluetooth versions listed in Apple’s filings in the database are often one version number higher than the version that ends up being supported on a device, for reasons unclear.”
It is expected that Apple will launch AirPods Pro 2 with Bluetooth 5.2 support this year which will come with noticeable improvements.
AirPods Pro 2 are expected to feature Bluetooth 5.2 which should enable them to transmit audio at higher bitrates, avoid desync issues, and require lesser energy which should result in longer battery life.
Bluetooth 5.2 also features support for Auracast Broadcasts, which should make it easy to connect multiple headphones to the same device, as well as connect it to audio sources as easily as connecting to Wi-Fi networks. This would be possible by scanning for the networks, scanning QR codes, or taping NFC tags. This feature could be useful in public spaces like museums.
As Bluetooth SIG has announced that Bluetooth 5.2 enabled devices will launch later this year. it is likely that AirPods Pro 2 will not launch at the September 7 event and might be announced via press release by the end of 2022.
