Apple announced new Group workouts with SharePlay on Apple Fitness+ at the September “California Streaming” event. With the release of iOS 15.1, iPadOS 15.1, tvOS 15.1, and watchOS 8.1, the Group workouts or mediation with SharePlay is available for Apple Fitness+ subscribers to invite up to 32 family or friends to their at-home workout sessions and stay motivated, healthy, and active together.
Jay Blahnik, Apple’s vice president of Fitness Technologies said:
“We created Fitness+ so everyone would have a place they feel inspired and motivated, no matter where they are on their fitness journey. We are so excited to be available to millions more people as we bring Fitness+ to 15 new countries, and can’t wait for them to meet our welcoming trainer team. We also think our users are going to love working out or meditating together with SharePlay. It’s a really fun way to connect with friends and family, even trade some words of encouragement or friendly smack talk, while also making progress toward closing their rings.”
How to start new Group workouts or Meditations with SharePlay on Apple Fitness+
It is very easy to invite up to 32 people to join Apple Fitness+ subscribers in Group workouts or meditations with SharePlay.
- Start a FaceTime video call with the desired family member, friend, or colleague via the FaceTime app on iPhone or iPad.
- Then, navigate to the Fitness+ app and start the preferred workout session.
- Once a select workout session begins, it will automatically be in sync for all participants on their iPhone or iPad. *SharePlay is compatible with Apple TV, so participants can even continue their Group workout or meditation session on a bigger screen while staying connected on the FaceTime call via iPhone or iPad.
It is a fun way to bring more people into one’s fitness journey by viewing their metrics on the screen and celebrating when someone closes all their activity rings, together. Furthermore, on November 3, 2021, Apple Fitness+ will be available in 15 new countries.
