Apple Fitness+ and Strava partnership offers custom fitness tracking and social sharing

Apple recently announced a partnership between Apple Fitness+ and Strava. As part of the collaboration, Fitness+ now features more detailed workout summaries within the Strava app, including information such as episode numbers, trainer names, music genres, metrics, and achievements, aligning Fitness+ with other popular fitness services like Peloton and Ladder.

The new integration also allows Fitness+ workouts to display more detailed insights, such as the instructor’s name and the class type, something that was missing in previous versions of the integration.

This update benefits both existing and new Strava subscribers in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia, who will receive a free three-month trial of Fitness+. The offer is available to Strava users, regardless of whether they own an Apple Watch, as long as they have access to an iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV. Additionally, popular Strava athletes like Hellah Sidibe and Kayla Jeter will appear as guest trainers in Fitness+ sessions, bringing their expertise from the Strava community into the Apple Fitness+ ecosystem.

The partnership also highlights Apple’s strategy to attract more seasoned athletes to Fitness+, particularly those already using Strava. The tech giant aims to offer a supplementary resource for cross-training and exploring new fitness activities. Strava athletes, who are often self-motivated and familiar with advanced fitness routines, can now diversify their workouts by integrating strength training, yoga, and other fitness regimens from Fitness+ into their routines.

On the content front, Apple is adding new workouts to Fitness+ in January 2025, including a three-week strength training program, a Yoga Peak Poses workshop focusing on challenging poses like Crow and Dancer, and a Breathing Meditation program to help manage stress and improve focus. The new programs are designed to cater to a wide range of fitness enthusiasts, from beginners to experienced athletes.

The collaboration with Strava provides an additional layer of engagement, allowing Strava users to share their Fitness+ workouts and access more comprehensive post-workout data, further enhancing their fitness tracking experience. This integration marks a significant evolution for both platforms, and Apple and Strava hint at even more ambitious features in the future, such as the possibility of joining a workout a Strava friend has completed with a single tap.
