Apple to finally launch AirTags alongside the iPhone 12 in October – Report

Apple will begin mass-producing the upcoming iPhone 12 series on a limited scale by the end of this month and the first half of October, according to a recent report. A report by an Asian tech publisher, the Cupertino tech giant is ready to begin production of AirTags as well.

Other news sources also corroborate the claim that users should expect the new smartphone line-up along with other products this year, despite the COVID-19 production delays. Earlier, in July, Apple confirmed the delay of the iPhone 12 launch by a ‘few weeks’ without elaborating on the reasons.

iPhone 12 mass production starting soon

As reported by Nikkei Asian Review, out of the four 5G devices expected to launch this year, production will begin with the more affordable 6.1-inch OLED model with a dual-lens camera, which accounts for around 40% of the company’s production orders for its iPhone 12 lineup.

This model is expected to replace the iPhone 11, which is the most sold smartphone this year. The Cupertino tech giant is also set to launch a smaller 5.4-inch model, a more costly 6.1-inch Pro model with a triple-lens camera, and a premium 6.7-inch Pro Max model.

Though the global health crisis has halted many manufacturers, Apple has taken many steps to ensure that it stays on track with its September announcement and October release.

“We’ve managed to shorten the delay significantly and we are not stopping here,”  supply chain executive told Nikkei. “The final assembly for some models is still going to be early October, but we are working to keep moving the production as early as possible.”

Nikkei claims Apple ordered components for up to 80 million 5G iPhones, but its sources say the actual number produced this year may end up being between 73 million and 74 million, with the rest suspended into early 2021.
