Apple led the global best-selling smartphone with its iPhone 13 and other models, followed by Samsung, according to data gathered by Counterpoint Research. The top 10 models captured 21% of the total smartphone market, with Apple capturing 12.3% of the market.
Apple lead the top 10 smartphone list last month with five models, iPhone 13 was #1
According to Counterpoint’s Global Monthly Handset Sales Tracker for April 2022, the Cupertino tech giant’s iPhone 13 continues to be the best-selling global smartphone. In fact, the iPhones included in the top 10 list accounted for 89% of the total for the month.
The iPhone 13 captured a 5.5% share of total smartphone sales for the month of April with the iPhone 13 Pro Max following at 3.4%. The iPhone 13 Pro captured 1.8% percent of sales while the iPhone 12 captured 1.6%. Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G and Galaxy A13 captured 1.5% and 1.4% of sales, respectively. The third-generation iPhone SE even made the list, coming in at number seven.
The research firm pointed out how the best-selling smartphones in April largely featured 5G connectivity. The standard has become a staple for flagships on the market and is starting to become widely available in mid-tier smartphones as well.
The month’s best-sellers list saw an increase in the number of 5G-enabled smartphones, rising to a new high of seven models and up from four in the same month last year. The 5G smartphones on the list represent a third of the total 5G smartphone sales. 5G capability has become a standard offering in flagships and its presence is increasing in lower price bands as well.
In addition to the list, Counterpoint revealed that the standard iPhone 13 has “maintained a lead every month since launch and has done better than the Pro variants in terms of sales in most large markets.”
Also, the iPhone SE 2022 saw triple-digit month-on-month growth. The smartphone performed particularly well in Japan where it topped the sales chart for April and captured 18% of the country’s total smartphone market share. Counterpoint notes that it is struggling to capture a bigger share of the market in the United States.
The iPhone 12, which captured the fourth spot on the list, saw an uptick in sales in Japan and India. It is also the only model included in the list which was present in the best-sellers list in April 2021.
