iTunes and iPod is where it all start for Apple. iTunes is clearly the number one online media store in the world as people have bought over 11.7 billion songs, over 450 million TV episodes, 100 million movies and 35 million books to date. iTunes users include over 160 million accounts with credit cards and 1-click shopping in 23 countries. Steve Jobs unveiled iTunes 10 today at the Apple event along with Ping, a new social network which revolves around music.
Ping makes it easy to share what you’re listening to and find out what your friends are listening to. It allows you to follow each other as well as your favorite artists.
Post thoughts and opinions as you want to, custom song and album charts, over 17,000 concert listings, and Ping is open to over 160m iTunes users immediately. We’re starting with a very large base with iTunes users, and they can sign up for Ping immediately.
Ping will be available for iTunes users on both desktop and iOS devices.
Apart from Ping, other new features include AirPlay. This allows you to stream music, videos and audio to devices in your home network. This means, you can start watching a movie on your iPad and continue it on your Apple TV with AirPlay. Also included are TV Show rentals for 99 cents an episode, support for Apple TV and improved and faster sycning with iOS devices.
