As a part of the iOS 15 update in 2021, Apple introduced an exciting new feature called “detailed city experience” for Apple Maps. Initially launched in four cities, this interactive feature has now expanded to more than 20 locations worldwide, offering users an immersive and visually stunning 3D map with unprecedented detail.

The detailed city experience in Apple Maps revolutionizes urban navigation, providing users with a rich 3D map that showcases intricate details of neighborhoods, commercial districts, marinas, buildings, and more. This engaging feature offers elevation details, new road labels, and hundreds of custom-designed landmarks, elevating the overall mapping experience.
In major cities around the world, users can now virtually explore custom-designed landmarks, which provide a sense of familiarity and a connection to the city’s iconic structures. For instance, users can marvel at Coit Tower in San Francisco, take in the grandeur of Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, admire the majesty of the Statue of Liberty in New York City, or appreciate the architectural brilliance of the Royal Albert Hall in London. These landmarks, among many others, have been meticulously recreated in 3D, allowing users to immerse themselves in the urban environment like never before.
What started with four cities has now grown to encompass more than 20 locations across the globe. Cities like Atlanta, Berlin, Boston, Chicago, Hamburg, Las Vegas, and many others have been added to the list of supported locations, making the detailed city experience accessible to an increasing number of users worldwide. Notably, Apple has also confirmed two additional cities, Houston and Dallas in Texas, as live locations with rich 3D views and custom-designed landmarks.
