Apple Music has added a new ‘Behind the Songs’ section on the service which brings forth session musicians, songwriters, and producers to highlight their work and share the stories of their journey in the creative process. The rollout of the feature is gradual, so some users might not see it right away.
Apple is following Spotify’s lead in giving credit to composers, producers, and songwriters, whose contribution in making a song is often overlooked. In December 2020, Spotify introduced the ‘Songwriters Hub’ for subscribers to find songwriters, listen to podcasts on their songwriting processes. The section was added to support the behind-the-scenes people of the music industry and now Apple has done the same. Popular songwriter of Ariana Grande’s song position, Nija said,
“Having a hub for songwriters is extremely important because people need to know who these people are who are helping create the soundtrack to our lives. Songwriters deserve to be praised for their contributions just as much as artists and producers. A lot of times we get the short end of the stick, so I’m glad that there’s a place where people can see who’s writing their favorite songs.” – Spotify
