In October 2021, Apple agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit over its replacement device under the Apple Care warranty plan for $95 million. This year in April, the court approved the settlement amount and now, Apple is sending out payment notification emails to eligible customers.
An aggrieved iPad owner filed the case at the United States District Court for the Northern District of California in 2016 and accused the tech giant of sending “inferior” quality refurbished devices to replace damaged devices under the Apple Care warranty.
In 2019, the court certified a class for purposes of litigating the merits of the case and was scheduled to go on trial on August 16, 2021. However, without admitting any wrongdoing, the tech giant settled the case.
Now all consumers who purchased AppleCare plans for iPhone and iPad after July 20, 2012, are eligible for the $95 million settlement fund.
