Everything on Apple Podcasts in iOS 16.4 and macOS 13.3
Last month, Apple announced the new changes coming to the Apple Podcasts app in iOS 16.4, iPadOS 16.4, and macOS 13.3. As the latest software updates are released across Apple devices, the new Apple Podcasts features are now available on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and CarPlay.
- New Channels section in the Library brings all of the listeners’ podcasts and channels in one place on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Shows which are part of a channel now appear in the new Channels section of the Library. By default, the premium channels (paid) are listed at the top and free channels follow. But users can tap on the three-dot button and slide the channel to re-position it.
- Improved Up Next queue features new episodes from the followed shows so users can decide what to listen to next. The section also includes episodes saved in the Library and shows they do not follow. Listeners now have more tools to manage Up Next queues like touching and holding the show artwork and tapping Remove from Up Nex to dismiss an episode, tapping the See All and finding the option from the More (…) menu, and swiping to the left on an episode.
- Enhancements to episode presentation are designed to make it easier for listeners to view episodes.
For example, listeners can see how many unplayed episodes are available for them at the top of each show page and from the Recently Updated section of Library, quickly understand how recently a new episode was published, and identify “early access” subscriber episodes that are made available to them as part of their subscription.
- Up Next and Browser added in Listen Now in CarPlay for listeners to conveniently find new shows and continue an episode while driving.
A recent report by Podnews revealed that Apple Podcasts was the most favored platform for podcast creators. The survey included feedback from 135 podcast creators which evaluated the sentiment of creators and listeners about the podcast platforms they use.
