Apple seeds tvOS 14.0.2 update with bug fixes and performance improvements

Today, Apple has seeded another update of Apple TV software, tvOS 14.0.2. The latest version of the operating system focuses on bug fixes and performance improvements. The company has released the new update just two weeks after the public release of tvOS 14.0.1.

Users can update their devices very easily via Settings app > System > Software Update. The update is rolling out globally. Unlike other operating systems like iOS, iPadOS, watchOS and macOS, Apple does not publish release notes of tvOS updates.

tvOS 14 – Details

As Apple only seeded the update with “includes general performance and stability improvements” notes, it will take a few days to know the improvements and fixes in the latest version of the software. However, we know the details of its first build, tvOS 14.

Launched at the WWDC online event 2020, the new tvOS 14 offers many new features to the Apple TV experience. Here is a list of everything new in the Apple TV operating system:

  • Picture-in-Picture to allow users to continue watching two videos simultaneously.
  • 4K Resolution.
  • Multi-user capabilities on Apple Arcade with controller support.
  • New Sci-fi Series.
  • Updated audio sharing with AirPods.
  • 4K Apple TV from iOS with AirPlay.
  • Users can manually choose a screensaver category. (beta 3)

Recently, users pointed out the YouTube 4K streaming on Apple TV 4K is finally available for set-top boxes on the tvOS 14. Initially, the update did not show up on the streaming service, probably, because of the delay on YouTube’s end. Currently, the update is missing HDR (Higher Dynamic Range) on streaming service and the video-sharing service is not keeping the P-i-P feature for premium subscriptions only.

On September 30, Apple had seeded the beta 7 of the Apple TV software for testing. Beta versions of the software are released to registered developers with Apple Developers Program for a $99 per year membership fee.
