Apple Store app now offers App Clip self-checkout for easy scan, pay and go

Consumers can now easily and quickly scan, pay and walk out of retail stores with their accessories via the new App Clip powered by the Apple Store app and Apple Pay. Select Apple Stores to feature App Clips codes among the accessories and at iPhone cases bays.

App Clips were introduced in iOS 14 which is a small part of an app that is easily accessible via App Clip codes.

An App Clip is a small part of an app that lets you do a task quickly, like rent a bike, pay for parking, or order food. You can discover App Clips in Safari, Maps, and Messages, or in the real world through NFC tags, QR codes, and App Clip Codes—unique markers that take you to specific App Clips. (App Clip Codes require iOS 14.3 or later.)

The new feature will allow users to self-checkout at stores and skip queues. Especially in the COVID-19 protocol, the new Apple Store app’s clip will enable users to maintain social distance and avoid a crowd. Here is how it can be used:

  • Look for the App Clips codes, visibly placed around the store. The
  • Open the iPhone’s camera to scan the code. Make sure that the iPhone is upgraded to iOS 14.3 or a later version.
  •  A barcode scanner will launch to easily scan accessories and make quick contactless payments via Apple Pay.

Users also receive personalized recommendations of the devices suitable to their needs based on the devices they already own. The Apple Store app is available on the App Store for free. It is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch and requires iOS 13 or later. However, users will need iOS 14.3 or later to use the app’s App Clip.
