Neha, wife of an Indian dentist, Nitesh Chopra wrote to Apple CEO Tim Cook about how Apple Watch Series 6 saved her husband’s life who was suffering from undiagnosed atrial fibrillation (AFib), a form of irregular rhythm.
The HindustanTimes wrote that Apple Watch’s ECG feature detected Chopra’s irregular heartbeat and upon consultation with the doctor, the couple learned Chopra has a blocked artery. After seeking the required medical treatment, Neha wrote to Tim Cook to thank him for the life-saving technology and he responded with kind words.
Tim Cook is glad that Apple Watch’s accurate ECG readings got a man the timely medical help
The couple shared that when they reached the hospital, they kept on comparing Chopra’s ECG readings on the monitor with those of Apple Watch and they were in sync. The accuracy of Apple Watch’s ECG readings has changed Chopra’s perspective about Apple Watch from just a fashion accessory to a life-saving “proper medical-grade device”.
Tim Cook is unknown for reading and responding to customers’ emails. Expressing his gratitude, he wrote to Neha that;
“I am very glad you sought clinical evaluation and received the care you desired. Thank you for sharing your story with us. Have a good day.
Best wishes,
Tim”.
Apple has always pushed Apple Watch as more than just a smartwatch, it’s a health monitoring device. Apple Watch Series 4 and later feature ECG, Fall Detection, Emergency call, and other health monitoring features. In Apple Watch Series 6 and later, Apple introduced Blood Oxygen Oxygen saturation monitoring, Sleep tracking, Apple Fitness+, Meditation, and other beneficial features which help users around the world in numerous ways.
At the Q1, 2022 earnings call, Apple’s wearable and home accessories segment generated $14.7 billion in revenue. And among other factors, Tim Cook accredited the success to the popularity of the Apple Watch. He said;
Customers are loving the Apple Watch Series 7 with its cutting edge, health and fitness tracking features. Nearly every day I get notes from customers who share how a heart alert led to a life saving appointment with a cardiologist. And more recently I’ve been hearing from people who tell me that their Apple Watch saved their lives by calling 911 when they couldn’t. As I’ve said, we’re still in the early innings with our health, but every day I am encouraged by our positive impact.
