According to a recent report by DigiTimes China, Apple has placed an order of 15 million iPhone 5 units to Pegatron Technology which is scheduled to start shipping in September 2011. There are many production rumors in the past released by DigiTimes that have turned out to be true, including their prediction of Pegatron receiving an order for CDMA iPhone 4s for the last quarter of 2010 while the actual CDMA iPhone 4 was launched in January 2011.
According to DigiTimes:
The sources pointed out that as the iPhone 5, which does not seem to have any major update from iPhone 4, is already set for shipment in September, they are already started supplying components to Pegatron with Pegatron’s plants in Shanghai, China also recently started hiring for manpower.
Will Apple stick to the usual yearly upgrade cycle this year as well and release an iPhone 5 in September? Only time will tell!
