Apple TV+ has announced the acquisition of a new seven-part thriller series “Hijack”, starring Idris Elba who will also serve as its executive producer.
In 2020, Elba and Apple signed a first-look deal for Elba’s production company Green Door Picture to produce television series and movies for Apple TV+. And the new “Hijack” series is the first project under that first-look deal.
The upcoming series is written by George Kay, will be direct by Jim Field Smith, and produced by 60Forty Films and Idiotlamp Productions in association with Green Door. It will be executive produced by Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, and Kris Thykier, along with Elba, Kay, and Smith.
Apple TV+ new “Hijack” thriller will tell the survival story of passengers on a hijacked flight from the U.S to the UK
As per the announcement, Elba will play the role of Sam Nelson, a successful businessman who finds himself on a flight to London that gets hijacked. The survival story of the passengers will be told in real-time in seven parts.
Told in real time, “Hijack” is a tense thriller that follows the journey of a hijacked plane as it makes its way to London over a seven hour flight, as authorities on the ground scramble for answers. Elba will star as Sam Nelson, an accomplished negotiator in the business world who needs to step up and use all his guile to try and save the lives of the passengers — but his high-risk strategy could be his undoing.
Elba will also star in another Apple TV+ original project, an un-named spy flick described as “a spy movie with romance” set in Africa.
The series will debut alongside other thrillers on Apple TV+ like critically acclaimed “Severance” from director and executive producer Ben Stiller; the metaphysical thriller “Shining Girls,”; “Disclaimer” a new psychological thriller series from award-winning director, writer, producer, cinematographer, and editor Alfonso Cuarón; and others.
