Apple TV+ is gradually expanding its media library. Variety reports that the streamer has given a series order for the new “Speed Racer” live-action series with J.J Abrams as an executive producer under his Bad Robot banner.
The upcoming kids’ title is written and executive produced by Ron Fitzgerald and Hiram Martinez which is an adaptation of the 1960s Japanese “Mach GoGoGo” series created by Tatsuo Yoshida. The series was later adapted as an anime series in 1967 with a new title “Speed Racer”. Apple TV+ “Speed Racer” will be the second-live action version of the iconic character.
The adventures of the iconic Japanese auto racer are coming to Apple TV+
The new “Speed Racer” live-action series will follow the life of an auto racer of Mach 5 and his unique team consisting is his father, brother, girlfriend, and pet chimpanzee.
“Speed Racer” follows the adventure of auto racer Speed Racer and his souped up car, the Mach 5. His team consists of his father and car builder Pops Racer, his little brother Spritle and his pet chimpanzee Chim-Chim, and Speed’s girlfriend Trixie. Speed also frequently crosses paths with the mysterious Racer X, who is secretly Speed’s older brother Rex Racer.
The upcoming series will join the exciting kids slate “Lovely Little Farm” a live-action animated series launching on June 10, and “Surfside Girls” a live-action series. The summer lineup for 2022 includes “Duck & Goose”, “Hello, Jack! The Kindness Show”, “Best Foot Forward”, “Amber Brown” series, “The Snoopy Show” and “Peanuts” Classics, “Lucy’s School” and “Life By Ella” series.
