Apple TV+ announced that it has ordered a new original series titled “Roar”, starring Nicole Kidman, Alison Brie, Cynthia Erivo, and Merritt Wever. With a cast of multiple Emmy, Golden Globe, and Tony award winners and nominees, the start-studded series will be released as part of Mensh and Flahive’s deal with Apple, the creators of “GLOW” series for Netflix.
The series will be an anthology and feature “darkly comic feminist fables” and will see Nicole Kidman in the role of both a producer and an actor. The series will be executive produced by Per Saari from Blossom Films, and Bruna Papandrea, Steve Hutensky and Allie Goss from Made Up Stories. Flahive and Mensch will serve the duties of creating the show and also as executive producers.
Apple TV+ orders anthology series ‘Roar’
“Roar” will be part of Apple TV’s original anthology productions, joining the likes of “Little America” The short stories will be based on Cecelia Ahern’s book of short stories, containing “eight half-hour genre-bending episodes told from a uniquely female point of view”. The book itself has 30 short stories, each focused on a woman’s story and the issues she deals with. Cecelia Ahern is no stranger to having her books converted into productions. P.S. I Love You is one of the previous screen adaptions of her books.
Apple has ordered other female-led original productions recently, including “Platonic”, executive produced by Rose Bryne, “The Last Thing He Told Me”, executive produced by Julia Roberts, and “Lessons in Chemistry”, produced by Brie Larson.
Apple TV+ has slowly been gaining steam with the number of series and movies it has been ordering, powered by star-studded cast and producers, and even winning critical acclaim for its original series, with Emmy wins for ‘Ghostwriter’ and ‘Peanuts in Space’, and a recent Golden Globe win with Jason Sudeikis winning best actor award in comedy series for “Ted Lasso”.
