Apple TV+ has scored six Academy Award nominations in several categories for 2022 including Best Picture Oscar nomination for “CODA”. Three of these nominations are for CODA and the other three are for The Tragedy of Macbeth.
Apple secures six Oscar nominations for “CODA” and “The Tragedy of Macbeth”
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the nominees for its 94th annual Oscars awards. Apple TV+ originals CODA and The Tragedy of Macbeth nabbed six nominations in total. Most notably, CODA was nominated for Best Picture Oscar making it the first movie with a predominantly deaf cast to land the nomination.

In 2021, Apple received its first-ever academy award nominations for its streaming service. The count of nominations has grown from two to six in a short period of time. It is also important to note that the nominations Apple received this year were all in the top categories.
CODA, short for Child of Deaf Adults, revolves around the story of 17-year old Ruby, who is a hard-working person that works in the mornings to help her family’s fishing business, before attending school. The film was acquired by Apple after it was previewed at Sundance Film Festival, for a record $25 million.
In addition to Best Picture, Troy Kotsur’s role as the father in CODA got him a Best Supporting Actor nomination, making him the first deaf male actor to receive an Oscar nomination. Scriptwriter and director Sian Heder was also recognized for Best Adapted Screenplay.
The Tragedy of Macbeth is based on the play Macbeth by Shakespeare. The story is about a Scottish lord who is convinced by three witches that he will become the next King of Scotland, and how his ambitious wife supports him in his plans to seize power. The film received three nominations for Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and Best Actor in a Leading Role (Denzel Washington).
Both CODA and The Tragedy of Macbeth can be streamed on Apple TV+ right now. The winners for the 94th annual Oscars awards will be revealed at the awards ceremony on 27th March.
