Promoting the inclusivity of the new Apple Vision Pro, the tech Apple has highlighted several accessibility features offered in the new AR/VR headset which are designed to make it more accessible to people with disabilities like vision impairments, hearing impairments, and mobility impairments.
Accessibility Features in Apple Vision Pro, coming early 2024
In a WWDC 2023 session for developers, Apple provided more details about the Vision Pro headset’s accessibility features that would allow users with disabilities to interact with the device and its operating system, visionOS.
We have listed the accessibility features coming in Apple Vision Pro coming next year:
VoiceOver
A screen reader that provides spoken feedback on everything that is happening on the screen. This allows users who are blind or visually impaired to use Vision Pro without having to see the screen.
Pointer Control
A feature that allows users to control Vision Pro with their head, wrist, or index finger. This can be helpful for users who have difficulty using their hands or who cannot use eye tracking.
Dwell Control
A feature that allows users to interact with Vision Pro by simply hovering their cursor over an object. This can be helpful for users who have difficulty making precise movements.
Guided Access
A feature that allows users to restrict Vision Pro to a single app at a time. This can be helpful for users who need to focus on a specific task or who are easily distracted.
Other accessibility features
In addition to the above-stated features, Vision Pro will also include several other accessibility features that can be customized to meet the needs of individual users. These options include:
- Display Accommodations: Settings that allow users to adjust the brightness, contrast, and other aspects of the Vision Pro display.
- Keyboard Accommodations: Settings that allow users to adjust the keyboard layout, size, and other aspects of the Vision Pro keyboard.
- Mouse Accommodations: Settings that allow users to adjust the mouse cursor speed, size, and other aspects of the Vision Pro mouse.
Apple has made a commitment to making its products and services accessible to everyone. The accessibility features in Vision Pro are a significant step towards that goal.
In terms of price and availability, Apple Vision Pro will cost $3,499 and will be available in early 2024 in the United States. It will roll out to more countries later in 2024.
