Apple is planning to launch three new Apple Watch models in 2022. These will include the standard Apple Watch Series 8, a budget-friendly Apple Watch SE, and a new Extreme Sports edition.
Apple Watch in 2022: Series 8, SE, and Extreme Sports
This new report comes from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who had earlier reported on Apple’s upcoming VR/AR headset, AirPods Pro 2, and two iPhone SE models. The report goes on to say that Luxshare-ICT will be the NPI supplier for the new extreme sports edition and Series 8.
The new Apple Watch in 2H22 includes Apple Watch 8, the new Apple Watch SE, and the extreme sports version. Luxshare-ICT is the NPI supplier for Apple Watch 8 and the extreme sports versions.
Kuo’s note corroborates Mark Gurman’s previous report which also said that Apple will launch three new models in 2022, which will include the Series 8, SE, and a “rugged” model for sports. The extreme sports edition will be targeted towards extreme sports athletes and hikers and would be durable like G-Shock watches against shocks and drops.
Regarding Apple Watch Series 8, Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, had earlier reported that it could come in three sizes, possibly with even larger displays than Series 7. In terms of sensors, it has been rumored that it would be able to measure blood pressure, glucose and alcohol levels, and even body temperature.
In terms of Apple Watch SE and the Extreme Sports edition, not much is known about the features that they would have, but we suspect that SE will have a subset of features that Series 8 will have, while Extreme Sports would have the same features as Series 8 while adding stronger protection.
Apple Watch Series 7 was recently released with larger displays, faster charging, new colors enhanced watch faces, IP6X certification, and more. However, it did not bring any new health sensors to the Watch.
Kuo has also revealed new details about the upcoming iPhone SE models, as well as the second-generation AirPods Pro.
