Apple Watch Series 7 has been announced with a new larger and brighter display, five new aluminum colors, faster charging, user interface updates, IP6X certification, and more. Apple has also included a full keyboard with optional tap and swipe inputs, as well as introduced new Watch bands.
Here are all the new features in Apple Watch Series 7.
Apple Watch Series 7 features
Design
Apple Watch Series 7 features a slightly tweaked design with software and more rounded corners. The edges of the display are refractive and make the screen blend seamlessly with the curvature of the case, even more than before.
The Watch is also available in five new aluminum colors which include midnight, starlight, green, and a new blue and (PRODUCT)RED, along with new watch bands.
There are also Apple Watch Nike and Apple Watch Hermès models available with refreshed Watch bands. Apple Watch Nike features a Nike Sport Loop in three new colors and features the Nike Swoosh and logo in the weave of the band, while Apple Watch Hermès now features two new bands: Circuit H and Gourmette Double Tour.
There are also two titanium color variants available.
Display
The display in Apple Watch Series 7 is the biggest upgrade in the smartwatch. It now features 20% more screen real estate than Apple Watch Series 6 and ships in two sizes: 41mm and 45mm. The borders are just 1.7mm in size now and it is also 40% thinner than Apple Watch Series 6. The display is also 70% brighter than before, allowing users to easily check time in always-on mode.
User interface
With the larger display, Apple has shipped its newest watchOS user interface improvements since Apple Watch Series 4. To take advantage of the larger display, watchOS on Apple Watch Series 7 features larger buttons that complement the size and shape of the new display. watchOS 8 also fits 50% more text than Series 6.
A full keyboard is also included with support for both tap or swipe input using QuickPath and on-device machine learning. There are also two new watch faces: Contour and Modular Duo, the latter of which supports two large data-rich complications.
Durability
The display also features a new crack-resistant front crystal that is 50 percent thicker than before, allowing for more protection. The Watch is also IP6X certified for dusty environments, while it continues to feature water resistance for swimming, rated at WR50.
Charging
Apple Watch Series 7 supports 33% faster charging than Series 6, thanks to revamped charging architecture and Magnetic Fast Charger USB-C Cable. It now takes 45 minutes to charge from 0 to 80%, while 8 minutes of charge provide 8 hours of sleep tracking.
Watch bands
Apple Watch Series 7 will ship with new watch bands that will complement the new models, while it will also be backward compatible with previous watch bands, despite the increase in display size.
Price and Availability
Apple Watch Series 7 will be available this fall, however, a specific launch date has not been announced probably due to production issues. The Watch will start from $399.
Apple will continue to sell Apple Watch Series 3 and Apple Watch SE for their existing prices.
