Apple Watch Ultra 3 and SE 3 delayed to 2025, says analyst Ming-Chi Kuo

Apple’s latest event may have left fans expecting more from the Watch lineup, particularly in terms of updates to the Ultra and SE models.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s predictions have proven accurate once again, as the rumored Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Apple Watch SE 3 were notably absent from the announcements. While many were hoping to see these new models this year, it appears that customers will have to wait until 2025 for the next generation of Apple’s wearable tech.

Apple Watch Ultra 2

Kuo, known for his reliable insights into Apple’s supply chain, suggested as early as October last year that the Apple Watch Ultra 3 would not be released in 2024. With no development on the Ultra 3 at that time, Kuo’s prediction that the device wouldn’t launch this year seems to have been spot on. Instead, Apple introduced a new Satin Black color for the Ultra 2, along with minor updates for the Series 10, but the Apple Watch SE was left out entirely.

Historically, Apple tends to unveil new Watch models alongside the annual iPhone release in September. However, some speculation suggests that the next Apple Watch SE could debut earlier, potentially in the spring of 2025, aligning with the expected launch of the iPhone SE 4. On the other hand, the Ultra 3 is more likely to follow the usual September release schedule.

For now, the 2025 timeline gives Apple enthusiasts plenty to anticipate. Rumors surrounding the Ultra 3 and SE 3 are sure to grow as the release date approaches, with some speculating about potential design changes or feature enhancements. While early reports mentioned a possible microLED display for the Ultra 3, recent developments indicate the project may not materialize, leaving OLED as the likely choice for the display.

As for this year, the Apple Watch Series 10 and the refreshed Ultra 2 remain the main offerings. Those interested in upgrading can pre-order these models, with shipping expected to begin soon. While the absence of the Ultra 3 and SE 3 may be disappointing, the 2025 releases promise exciting innovations in Apple’s wearable tech lineup.
