The latest reports say that Apple is working on the release of a video sharing and editing app and integration of new social features centered around smarter AI for iOS devices. The possible additions to Apple’s software are aimed at boosting the company’s services business amidst tough competition from social networking giants like Facebook and Snapchat.
Video Sharing and Editing App
According to Bloomberg, Apple is working on a new video sharing and editing app which will allow users to record video, edit it by applying filters or drawing on it. The videos can be shared with family and friends via social network apps like Facebook Messenger. The video dimensions will be similar to Instagram’s square-shaped videos and the app will have one-hand functionality so users can quickly create and share videos. The goal for the app is to enable users to complete the whole video editing and upload process in less than a minute.
The features of Apple’s future video app are very similar to the popular social app, Snapchat. The ability to make short and expressive videos has been Snapchat’s main feature which keeps its 15 million users engaged daily. Apple is not the only one inspired by Snapchat as Facebook also rolled out Instagram stories which their response to Snapchat’s Stories feature.
Users can currently test similar editing features in iOS 10 beta’s iMessage app which lets them draw over videos.
Social integration
Apple is also working on developing and releasing social-related features for iPhone and iPad. The features will be designed to integrate smarter AI like its proactive assistance feature in iOS, to help stay connected with their contacts in a more efficient manner.
It is also speculated that Apple will introduce a single platform to consolidate all correspondence between users and their contacts. A single interface will allow access to texts, emails, and interaction on social media shared between two people.
However, the development and release of the aforementioned features will be finalized after being scrutinized and approved by Apple’s internal team which is concerned with privacy. The team possesses the power to kill any venture which exposes too much of user’s data.
