Taiwanese supply chain-based publisher, DigiTimes reports that Apple will introduce 3rd generation iPhone SE with an A14 Bionic chip and 5G network support. The current iPhone 12 series is powered by the A14 Bionic chip built on a 5nm process manufactured by TSMC and supports advanced 5G connectivity.
Apple upgraded the SE line in 2020 with the launch of the iPhone SE (2nd- generation). Starting at $399, the smartphone got an upgraded A13 Bionic chip which is also used in iPhone 11, a 4.7-inch Retina HD display, upgraded camera with Portrait mode, depth control, 4K video capture, 13 hours of battery on a single charge, and more. The model was so popular that it catapulted Apple’s Q2 2020 revenues.
Now, the company is working to improve the model further. If Apple is offering the same features in its low-mid iPhone SE, it can be presumed that Apple is making 5G connectivity and faster processor standard features across new iPhone models.
iPhone SE 3 to launch in 2022
The paywalled article viewed by MacRumors claims that the third-generation iPhone SE will launch in the first half of 2022.
Apple reportedly is set to roll out its third-generation iPhone SE series in the first half of 2022, providing new business opportunities for chip probing specialists including TSMC subsidiary Xintec, according to industry sources.
This claim is corroborated by Min Chi Kuo who reported that Apple will continue with the same curved edges design in the next-generation entry-level model but will upgrade the hardware; “the new 1H22 SE will have a similar form factor design as the existing SE, with the major differences being 5G support and processor upgrades.”
In addition, analyst Ross Young from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) reported that in 2023 the entry-level iPhone will get a design update with a punch hole cut out for a front-facing camera and an edge-to-edge 6.1-inch display.
As cellular carriers are developing 5G infrastructure, there is a growing demand for 5G smartphones around the world. It is speculated that with a 5G entry-level iPhone, Apple will be able to cater to a larger demographic which is looking for a compact phone at a pocket-friendly price with fast download speed.
