The newly launched iPadOS 15 takes advantage of the large iPad screen by brings new extra-large widgets which offer more information and customization options. The latest software update also allows users to place widgets among apps on the Home Screen, and features new widgets for Find My, Contacts, App Store, Game Center, and Mail, intelligent widgets suggestions which appear automatically in the Smart Stack, and suggested layouts include most used widgets to be arranged on the Home Screen.
Widgets were first introduced in iOS 14 that repositioned them from the Today View section to the Home Screen amongst the apps. They provide useful information about users’ most frequently used apps at a glance without opening the app. Here are some of the apps which now offer extra-large widgets for iPad.

Things 3
Things 3 app is updated to not only offer XL widgets but also customization options.
We’ve added two new extra-large widgets for the iPad’s big screen:
- The first, called “Up Next”, helps you stay on top of your schedule. It shows your to-dos for Today, Tomorrow, and the two days after that.
- The second is the extra-large “List” widget. It shows a single list, but in two columns so you can see more to-dos at a glance.
Things’ widgets have proven super popular. Many of you have written in to say you’d like more customization options, so we’ve added two improvements that we think you’ll enjoy:
- By default, the “+” button saves a new to-do to your Inbox. You can now change this to the currently-displayed list: tap & hold the widget, then choose Edit. You can also hide the button entirely.
- By default, Things’ widgets follow the system’s light/dark setting, but many of you told us that you prefer your widgets to be always dark. You can now control this behavior in Things > Settings > Appearance. We’ve also added a beautiful Black theme.
Apollo
Apollo Reddit app for iPadOS has also received the XL widget treatment. The large widget can be used to display posts from the home feed or any subreddit of choice.
Users can download the apps on their iPad via the App Store and existing users will have to update their apps to enjoy the new extra-large widgets on iPadOS 15.
