To let consumers safely use their iPhones while driving, Apple offers CarPlay service which turns a compatible vehicle’s infotainment display into a panel or screen to use their iPhone to make or answer calls, get directions, read or send text messages, check their Calendar, play their favorite music and much more.
The fun does not end there, CarPlay also supports several third-party apps to order food, stay updated with the news, listen to podcasts, stream music, find EV charging stations, and more. As the service is centered around drivers’ safety on the road, none of the CarPlay apps are distracting or have a complex interface.
New apps released on CarPlay
May 4, 2023: Popular read-it-later app, Instapaper is now available on CarPlay. The CarPlay version of the app uses text-to-speech tech to read articles in a variety of voices and allows users to listen to their entire Instapaper library while driving including articles in Like, Archived, Home, and Folders.
To start listening to an article, just select one from the list.
Furthermore, users can rewind, fast forward, and change the playback speed of an article while it is playing and also archive or like the currently played article. Through Instapaper for iOS, users can choose the voice of their liking and even download additional high-quality voice via Settings app > Accessibility > Speech > Voices.
Instapaper Premium subscription offers additional perks like Carplay automatically creating a playlist, so users can listen to articles one after the other, and allowing users to create custom playlists.
Here are the CarPlay apps you can use for navigation, entertainment, news, and more
iOS 13 or later offer the new CarPlay Dashboard with an easy-to-use interface. The dashboard allows users to keep track of Maps, audio controls, and Siri Suggestions, which provide easy access to users’ Calendar events and other things. Users can also use the dashboard to take control of their door openers, cameras, and other HomeKit accessories.

CarPlay is supported on over 800 vehicles and all of the apps are available on iOS App Store. Users can easily add or remove any app from Apple CarPlay via iPhone: Settings app > General > CarPlay > Customize.
