Apple recently unveiled the next-generation Apple Silicon in new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models: M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max. Built on an advanced 3nm process, the M3 series features improved CPU and GPU performance than their predecessor M2 family chips.
Furthermore, Apple has also introduced new graphics architecture that features new Dynamic Caching tech and rendering capabilities like hardware-accelerated ray tracing and mesh shading to boost performance for demanding pro games, along with apps.
- Dynamic Caching efficiently manages memory for each task by allocating the use of local memory in hardware in real-time.
- Hardware- accelerated Ray tracing lets apps create realistic and physically accurate shadows and reflections in images by modeling the properties of light when interacting with a scene.
- Hardware-accelerated mesh shading tech offers capabilities and efficiency for geometry processing and enables more visually complex scenes in games and other graphics-intensive apps.
The new M3 Pro SoC upgrades combined with 120Hz Pro Motion display and game mode in macOS Sonoma have made the new 14-inch and 16-inch M3 Pro MacBook Pro capable gaming laptops. Here are the pro graphics-intensive games you can enjoy on the new M3 Pro MacBook Pro.
Here are eight AAA games you can enjoy on M3 Pro MacBook Pro
YouTuber @Andrew Tsai tested AAA ports on the new M3 Pro MacBook Pro running on 1440p resolution and found that the chip is capable of handling most of them. Here are the results:
No Man’s Sky runs between 90 and 120 fps (frames per second). The games delivers high fps because it natively supports Apple Silicon and MetalFX. In additional to latest M3 series chips, No Man’s Sky runs nicely on first-generation M1 series chips as well.
Resident Evil: Village runs with 69-70 fps. It is native macOS AAA game with support for MetalFX which delivers impressive graphical performance and gameplay experience.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake runs between 45 and 55 fps. As a Windows DirectX 12 game, Final Fantasy 7 Remake runs on Apple Silicon through the game porting toolkit and crossover and even then, delivers an impressive gaming experience.
Cyberpunk 2077 runs between 40 and 46 fps. It is a Windows DirectX12 game and runing through game porting toolkit, crossover and CX Patcher on Mac, it delivers a good performance.
Overwatch 2 runs between 38 and 45 fps. Even as the Windows version of the game running through CX Patcher crossover and DXVK on macOS, Overwatch 2 offers an enjoyable gaming experience.
Baldur’s Gate 3 runs between 45 and 60 FPS depending on the details of the environment and the number of characters on the screen. More detailed scenes and a higher number of characters at a time result in a drop of fps because it does not natively support MatalFX and runs with AMD FSR 1.0.
God of War ran between 38 and 42 FPS. It is PC DirectX 11 game running on Apple Silicon Mac through game porting toolkit and crossover. It is the only game whose native resolution is too demanding for the M3 Pro.
YouTuber Blendlogic Tech found that League of Legends is also playable on M3 Pro MacBook Pro with up to 90 fps.
