As expected, blackra1n RC2, the updated version with bug fixes of the latest iPhone OS 3.1.2 jailbreak tool by George Hotz has been released. Along with fixing jailbreak issues, it also brings support for a tethered jailbreak for iPod Touch 8GB and new iPhone 3GS’es. Note: tethered jailbreak means that you’ll have to connect your device to your Mac or PC to start again after a reboot with jailbreak. You must also have OS 3.1.2 on your iPhone or iPod Touch to jailbreak using blackra1n RC2.

Hello, I am helping my friend jailbreak his iphone 3gs, but he does not need it to be unlocked since he is still in contract with at&t. The iphone 3gs came with the os 3.1.2. Will using this blackra1n rc2 jailbreak his iphone 3gs? also what is the teathered jailbreak thing? I am a bit confused on that. And what is the risk of doing this? My friend is very paranoid and I barely convinced him to let me jailbreak it so I need to know the risks. Thanks for any info.
tethered means to have your iphone/ipod touch jail broken but you have to plug it in your computer every time to turn it on or off.
i was wondering if this can be done to a normal I pod touch 3.1.2 firmware version. also, i have read about tethered and untethered jailbreaks. I dont want to have to plug the device into a computer to turn it on or off either… will that happen if i do this?
and i have read that some people have problems with it getting stuck in a recovery mode?

Hey, ive just run this blackra1n on my ipod touch 8gb 3rd Gen 3.1.2 because it says the Tethered issues have been fixed, but ive run it, and i still cant turn off, or reboot my ipod without it going into recovery mode,
so i thought never mind, il restore it back to normal, but it wont let me.. every time i restore, it goes into recovery and asks me to restore the ipod again.. is anyone able to help? what should i do.

Having all of the above problems with my iPod Touch 8gb 3.1.2 after running Blackra1n RC3. I’ve followed the guide to the letter and read the posts (and all comments), but there is no answer to this issue.
Had to restore b/c there was nothing else I could do. Am very skeptical about trying again. Thank goodness I did a backup.

When is shows that itunes icon, connect it to your computer and run the blackra1n tool again.
i tried this with my ipod and nothing happens….it stays on recovery mode…did i do something wrong? can you help me out?
you have to hard reset by pressing home and lock button for 10 and it will turn off ok
For those w ipod touch 2g mc using Vista & stuck on the entering recovery/connect to itunes screen:
-stop blackra1n & make sure you cntlaltdel to cxl itunes/helper
-move blackra1n.exe to desktop (note above mentions purplera1n but you probably don’t need it)
-run blackra1n as admin
So this it work on MC models? i’ve heard from >tysiphonehelp< on youtube, and he said that blackra1n won't work on iTouch 3.1.2 8gb MC models. I'm not sure if he is refering to blackra1n RC2.
