Apple’s new external monitor, Studio Display offers 5K resolution, an excellent audio system, webcam, and other features and it is also compatible with Windows. And to give Windows users a better experience, Apple has updated Boot Camp to version 6.1.17 which includes Studio Display drivers to run Windows on Intel-based Macs.
Boot Camp is a utility tool that allows Intel-based Macs users to switch between macOS and Windows on their computers. As Apple Silicon does not officially support Windows, Macs on Apple Silicon do not offer Boot Camp.
New Boot Camp update supports Studio Display and drivers for AMD and Intel GPUs
Released earlier this week, the new update for Boot Camp includes drivers for Studio Display and AMD and Intel GPUs. To install the latest Boot Camp drivers, owners of Intel-based Macs need to click on the “Start” menu in Window and then open the “Apple Software Update” app.
However, it must be kept in mind that the new display is optimized to run on macOS, and Windows on the new monitor has limitations. Advanced features like Center Stage for video calling, Spatial Audio support, True Tone are not available on Windows but the webcam, speakers, and USB-C ports will continue to function without support for the aforementioned features.
Studio Display has received promising reviews. Its design, high-quality resolution, and excellent audio system have generally impressed the reviewers. However, for some, its high price, compatibility with Macs only, and especially the poor image quality of its 1080p webcam is disappointing.
