Cisco has announced that it will release support for AirPlay across Webex devices in June this year. The new feature will allow iPhone, iPad, and Mac users to display their screens on Webex devices, especially popular in enterprises.
Originally, Apple introduced AirPlay, a proprietary system, to mirror iPhone, iPad, or Mac screens on Apple TV stream audio or videos over a home network. In 2018, the company released the upgraded AirPlay 2 system that expanded screen sharing and other capabilities to third-party devices and apps, along with the potential for whole-house entertainment.
With AirPlay, users will be able to cast their iOS and macOS screens on Webex Room, Desk, and Board devices
In June, Cisco will empower iOS, iPadOS, and macOS users to continue their collaborative projects on Webex Room, Desk, and Board series devices wirelessly over AirPlay. To ensure users’ security, screen sharing will be done through configurable PIN authentication to prevent unwanted screen sharing.
With Apple AirPlay support across our Webex Room, Desk, and Board series, there is no need to fumble around with cords or connections when trying to share content with colleagues. Users can now effortlessly connect wirelessly to share their iPhone, iPad, and Mac screens – whether together in a meeting room, or remote in a video call.
By integrating Apple AirPlay technology on Webex devices, we deliver the flexibility that today’s workers want and need. People are empowered too effortlessly watch, listen, and share essential content and get their work done, on the devices they love and use every day.
Cross-platform integration or support is beneficial for consumers as it removes the hurdles of extra devices to connect products from different manufacturers. Earlier, Amazon launched native support for AirPlay on the Prime Video app for Mac, along with Roku on 4K Roku devices. Spotify has also said that it is working on native support for AirPlay on iOS.
Happy about the deeper integration of Apple devices with third-party devices like Cisco, the company’s vice president of enterprise and education marketing, Susan Prescott said that:
At Apple, we build products to enrich people’s lives and help them do their best work. With AirPlay built into iPhone, iPad, and Mac, now combined with the latest enhancements to Webex devices, it’s even easier to instantly and securely share your screen or a video in a Webex meeting. Our collaboration with Cisco has been focused on making work better for our users, and using AirPlay with WebEx is a great example of that.”
