The war between Apple and Google started with the launch of Android and now this war is not just between their smartphone but also tablets as they are the emerging category in the market. When we talk about the war between tablets, it started when HP said that they would launch their windows 7 based tablet just before Apple announced they would launch the iPad. iPad became a huge success and on the other hand, HP killed their tablet although they plan to launch a tablet with WebOS early next year. Some other companies also launched tablets like JooJoo and WePad but these tablets were completely ignored because of the amazing features of iPad. Now, Samsung has announced the Galaxy Tab which is practically the first real competitor for iPad.
Samsung announced their Android tablet Galaxy Tab on Thursday. It is a 7-inch tablet that will compete against Apple’s iPad which is currently the king of tablet devices.
If we comparing both devices according to their specs, the differences are evident in the fact that Galaxy Tab has many things that the iPad doesn’t have a front and back camera, ability to use as a phone and it has the option of expandable storage. But the great thing about the iPad is that it has amazing apps in the App Store that we don’t think any other device can match. While the Galaxy Tab may have superior specs, the next iPad is rumored to launch later this year or early next year and we are sure that it would have front and rear cameras and a Retina Display. The chart below shows a side-by-side comparison between the two devices.

Galaxy Tab is smaller than the iPad and actually it will be compared with the rumored upcoming smaller iPad[1. we don’t really believe in this rumor but with Apple, you never know.]. Some features of Galaxy Tab gives it a upper hand hardware wise, but there is no way its apps can compare with the apps available for iPad.
iOS 3.2 surely looks like the better OS for tablets but just like Samsung Galaxy S, we expect that Android 2.2 + TouchWiz will make a great combination. The phone calling feature of Galaxy Tab gives it a huge plus point. The battery life of both devices is impressive with the iPad having a huge battery life of up to 10 hours and Galaxy Tab up to 7 hours with video playback. The reason behind this is that iPad has a larger battery because of its larger size as compared to Galaxy Tab[2. Galaxy Tab: 4000 mAh battery while iPad: 6600 mAh].
The sales of iPad have crossed more than 3.2 million. This shows that the iPad is surely the superior tablet available in the market. But looking at the Galaxy Tab, we expect it to have good sales too if Samsung prices it aggressively like Galaxy S. It will launch in the coming few weeks in Europe and then after some time in U.S.
I personally am too excited about the Samsung Galaxy S. The device is sexy, supports flash and ANDROID. All in all I see a lot of potential in it.
The only deciding element for the most of us would be the price. It should be cheap. I dont say as cheap as $100 but should be much less than the iPad.
The latest samsung galaxy tab looks amazing it seems that just about every company is now offering it’s own Personal computer tablet. i havent made up my mind weather to buy a ipad or some other tab. But i’ve got to admit that the Samsung is pritty tempting. Jake from the England
