iOS 16.1 displays live sports scores on iPhone 14 Pro’s Dynamic Island

iOS 16.1 is still in beta testing and it includes Live Activities. On the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, Live Activities are integrated with the Dynamic Island, allowing users to see live sports scores from the top of the display, no matter what app they are using.

Live sports scores coming to the Dynamic Island soon

Twitter user @paulandtech shared how the Dynamic Island displays live sports scores on iOS 16.1. To test the feature for yourself, open the Apple TV app, search for a game and tap Follow.

On iPhones without the Dynamic Island, Live Activities will live on the Lock screen as a widget that displays real-time information, allowing you to quickly look at live sports scores or how much time a food delivery order will take.

The feature is not just going to be exclusive to sports games, third-party app developers will be able to use the Live Activities API to implement the features and functionalities of their own app in the feature.

To show off the new sports widgets, Apple during WWDC 22 showed off a widget that had scores and play-by-play action from Major League Baseball (MLB). Live Activities for MLB games will be available in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Japan, and South Korea.

Live Activities for NBA and Premier League games will be available in the United States and Canada when iOS 16.1 launches later this year.

In addition to Live Activities and Live Activities API, iOS 16.1 will also add a new stem volume control toggle for AirPods Pro 2 in settings, a new Clean Energy Charging option, Matter support, and the ability to use Apple Fitness+ without an Apple Watch.
