Epic Games announced that their popular Epic Games Store (EGS), currently available on PC, is arriving on both iOS and Android devices later this year.
With Epic Games Store, players can anticipate access to a diverse selection of games
For years, the Google Play Store (Android) and App Store (iOS) have been the dominant forces for downloading games on mobile devices. With Epic Games Store (EGS) entering the arena, you’ll have a new contender offering a different experience.
One of Epic’s key focuses is fairer revenue share for developers. Currently, the Epic Games Store offers an 88/12 split in favor of developers, compared to the 15-30% cut taken by the Google Play Store and App Store. This could incentivize more game creators to bring their titles to the EGS, potentially leading to a wider variety of games for you to choose from on both Android and iOS.
This approach has already attracted many developers to the Epic Games Store on PC, and its expansion to Android could further incentivize developers to bring their titles to the platform.
Beyond iOS and Android
Epic has ambitious plans for the EGS. They aim to make it the first-ever “true multi-platform store,” available on Android, iOS, PC, and macOS. This could potentially allow you to sync your game progress and purchases across different devices.
While an official release date hasn’t been announced, Epic has hinted at a late 2024 arrival for the EGS on Android. The iOS version seems to be dependent on upcoming regulatory changes from the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA).
This wait allows for anticipation to build but also raises questions about how the EGS will integrate with existing mobile systems and functionalities.
The arrival of the EGS on Android and potentially iOS has the potential to shake up the mobile gaming landscape. With a focus on developer revenue and a multi-platform vision, the EGS could introduce exciting new titles and functionalities for mobile gamers.
