ESPN+ is the latest app to natively support the FaceTime SharePlay feature. Updated to version 6.64, the ESPN+ app on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV (set-top box) now allows subscribers to enjoy thousands of live events and show from the ESPN networks with their friends and family via FaceTime SharePlay.
Apple launched the SharePlay feature in iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and tvOS 15 updates with native support for Apple Music, Apple TV+, and Apple Fitness+ apps on iPhone and iPad and third-party apps like Disney+, HBO Max, MasterClass, and others. Although ESPN+ was listed as one of the supporting apps at the time of release, it has only integrated SharePlay now.
ESPN+ subscribers can now watch live events and shows via FaceTime SharePlay
On the updated ESPN+ app, users will be able to virtually watch a variety of sports events together with their family and friends like NFL (Monday Night Football), NBA, MLB, College Sports (football, basketball, baseball, softball, and more), Golf (The Masters), Soccer (UEFA Euro and MLS), Tennis (Wimbledon, US Open, Australian Open), eSports and much more. The release notes read:
Stream together with SharePlay – With SharePlay, you can stream select live sports, ESPN+ Originals, and more with friends and family on FaceTime. Try it out on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV (accessible on latest iOS, iPadOS, or tvOS 15.1 update).
For a monthly or yearly subscription, the app also offers live streaming of exclusive sports and ESPN+ Originals HD quality, access to premium articles and fantasy tools, highlights and scores, favorite teams, leagues, and games, and a lot more.
Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, Bob Borchers said that SharePlay is a completely new way to experience digital content and virtually stay connected with people who are physically apart.
“SharePlay brings a whole new way to connect, share experiences, and have fun together on FaceTime. SharePlay leverages Apple’s integration of hardware and software to deliver a magical experience across iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV, and works with many Apple services as well as some of the most popular apps in the App Store.”
Download the ESPN+ app from the App Store for free. It comes with a $6.99 monthly subscription fee and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV, Apple Watch, and iMessage. The app requires iOS 14.0 or later, iPadOS 14.0 or later, tvOS 14.0 or later, respectively.
